Despite recent reports that Facebook will announce its mobile ad network at its F8 global developer conference in San Francisco April 30, Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg didn’t have much to say on the subject during the company’s first-quarter earnings call Wednesday.
In response to a question from Cowen & Co. Analyst John Blackledge about how Facebook’s mobile ad network would provide additional value to advertisers compared with existing mobile ad networks, Sandberg would only say:
On the ad network, we are in early testing for a mobile ad network. We do see a big opportunity here. We think that because we’re people-based, we have an opportunity first to provide greater reach for marketers and developers that are working with Facebook across other platforms, but also to improve the relevance of the ads people see both on and off Facebook.
And I think that has been our core advantage and will continue to be. That said, it’s really early days, and we’re in the early testing phase.
