Bigger Big Apple Space For Facebook

Facebook signed a 10-year lease for 100,000 square feet at 770 Broadway in New York, nearly double its current space of 55,000 sq. ft. at 335 Madison Ave., The Wall Street Journal reported.

The social network has had a presence in New York since 2008, the Journal reported, and it moved into its Madison Avenue location in 2010, with only sales and marketing employees located in the city at the time.

A Facebook spokesman told the newspaper the company expects to begin moving employees into 770 Broadway in early 2014.

Renowned architect Frank Gehry, who designed Facebook’s expansion of its headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., will also work on its new New York space, which will include a chef-staffed cafeteria, smaller kitchens for snacks and drinks, and an open floor plan, the Facebook spokesman told the Journal.

Facebook New York Office Site Director Serkan Piantino told the Journal the expansion of the social network’s engineering team in the city was partly behind the move, adding:

That helps us by removing barriers to hiring the best, most talented people in the world. New York as a tech hub has really exploded. What we arrived at was that we really wanted to make a big bet here.

770 Broadway is also home to clothing retailer J. Crew.
