Facebook and Twitter have gone to the dogs, and this is not necessarily a bad thing. WOOFipedia, an online destination for dog-lovers created by the American Kennel Club, teamed up with gift-card and greeting-card outfit Cleverbug to enable WOOFipedia users to create printed and digital photo cards featuring their dogs and share them via Facebook or Twitter.
The AKC said WOOFipedia users will now have access to the CleverCards application from Cleverbug, and they can combine the app’s photo-card editing features and Facebook integration with exclusive content from WOOFipedia to create their cards.
WOOFipedia users will also have access to exclusive sweepstakes and CleverCard contests, along with branded WOOFipedia card designs.
AKC Assistant Vice President of Social Media and Communications Chris Walker said in a release announcing the initiative:
The American Kennel Club launched WOOFipedia with the goal of using the social Web to reach a new generation of dog owners through engaging, educational, and fun content. With CleverCards, we’ve struck a brilliant balance of informative and compelling content and activities that will help new owners build strong skills with their dog and its specific breed, and commemorate every moment.
And Cleverbug Chief Marketing Officer Nick Ruotolo added:
This well-matched partnership brings together two sentimentally charged services and repackages them for a very targeted, passionate community. WOOFipedia in itself is a smart, solid offering, and by partnering with us, it is able to reach users in a new channel, and on a deeply emotional level — something many of today’s content marketers are trying to achieve. This inaugural partnership will serve as a great baseline for brands aiming to reach customers in new ways, and we’re thrilled to see dog lovers blaze the trail for our next phase of brand-building and customer acquisition.
