Amazon Friends & Family Gifting Feature Taps Into Data On Facebook Friends

Ecommerce giant Amazon incorporated Facebook into its new Friends & Family Gifting feature, which allows its customers to tap into the social network, as well as Twitter and Pinterest, for shopping help.

Friends & Family Gifting aids Amazon users with keeping track of birthdays and other events, as well as shopping reminders and gift ideas. Its Gift Lists feature allows users to create and share gift ideas via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and email.

Amazon said Friends & Family Gifting users can also opt in to receive email reminders before friends’ birthdays, which link directly to those friends’ existing wish lists, as well as information about products those friends have liked.

Amazon, Senior Manager of Wish List and Gifting Andy Rosenbaum said:

Friends & Family Gifting on Amazon makes gift-giving fun and easy. You will never forget a birthday and will have great gift ideas ready for this holiday season and special occasions year-round.

MasterCard teamed up with Amazon on Friends & Family Gifting, and Cheryl Guerin, its senior vice president of U.S. marketing, added:

The reaction from a friend or loved one when they receive a thoughtful gift is priceless. However, identifying and purchasing that gift can be stressful. We’re happy to join Amazon in simplifying the gift-giving experience with Friends & Family Gifting, giving customers more time to spend experiencing the joys of holiday traditions.
