Former BlackBerry Messenger Lead Andrew Bocking Named Internet.org App Product Manager

InternetOrgApp650Andrew Bocking, who led the BlackBerry Messenger effort for BlackBerry before leaving that company in February, joined Facebook as product manager for its recently announced Internet.org application, Re/code reported.

Bocking will report to Internet.org Product Management Director Guy Rosen, according to Re/code.

Facebook confirmed the hire to Re/code but did not offer any additional details.

According to Re/code, Bocking spent more than 13 years with BlackBerry, helping to expand its messaging service into developing markets including Southeast Asia and Africa.

Facebook announced the launch of the Internet.org app last week, initially in Zambia, saying that the Android app will give Airtel subscribers in Zambia basic access to the following services via the app, the Internet.org site or the Facebook for Android app:
