Anti-FWD.us Protestors Eye Facebook Annual Meeting

Facebook’s annual meeting Tuesday at the Westin San Francisco Airport in Millbrae, Calif., will be the target of protestors, but their issues lie more with FWD.us, the political-advocacy group led by Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The San Francisco Chronicle’s Politics Blog reported that while FWD.us presents itself as a group backing immigration reform, the group’s backing of ads touting politicians that support the Keystone XL Pipeline drew the ire of activists, led by 350 Bay Area and Keystone Action Council.

According to Politics Blog, the activists want Zuckerberg to cease bankrolling any more ads that are pro-fossil fuel, pro-Keystone, and pro-drilling; and to commit the same amount of funds already spent on those ads to support education about negative climate and the economic and public health impacts recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency.

While Facebook itself has nothing to do with FWD.us, Zuckerberg is the most visible presence at both the company and the group.

Readers: Do you think Facebook’s annual meeting should be targeted by protestors, despite the fact that FWD.us is an independent initiative?
