Facebook Debuts Beta Of Overhauled App Insights

AppInsights20BetaInterface650Facebook announced the release of App Insights 2.0 beta, which all developers can opt into starting Thursday, and the social network said the most prominent improvements in this “major update” are an improved dashboard for managing applications, more actionable data on app performance, and improved reliability and warnings in the event of outages.

Facebook added that it will continue to update Insights 2.0 “over the coming months,” adding more features from the previous version of App Insights, as well as introducing new features. App Insights 1.0 will continue to be supported as the default option, but developers who wish to move up to App Insights 2.0 can click the “Try the New App Insights” button on their App Insights overview pages.

The social network offered more details on the improvements in App Insights 2.0 beta in a post on its developer blog:

We’ve redesigned App Insights around how your apps integrate with Facebook, as opposed to how users interact with Facebook. This should help you better understand the value of your integration. For example, the new overview dashboard (pictured above) shows the most important metrics for common functionality like login and sharing, and makes it easy to click to get more details.

We’ve reorganized the data you need to make a decision in one place. For example, we now have a single dashboard that tells you how much traffic you receive from Facebook, whether it’s coming from Open Graph stories or requests.

We performed a comprehensive audit of our data sources and logging to significantly improve the quality and reliability of the data, especially for metrics that come from mobile on iOS and Android. In addition, App Insights will now display warnings on dashboards when there is an outage or a known issue with the data.
