INFOGRAPHIC: Arab Facebook Penetration

With 36 percent of its population active on the network, the United Arab Emirates shows the highest proportion of its inhabitants on Facebook among Arab-land countries, according to an Arab social media report prepared by the Dubai School of Government, as reported by Mashable.

According to the infographic, the five countries in the region with the highest percentage of population on Facebook are:

  1. UAE, 36 percent
  2. Jordan, 35 percent
  3. Lebanon, 34 percent
  4. Kuwait, 31 percent
  5. Tunisia, 28 percent

And the three Arab countries with the smallest percentage of population on Facebook are:

  1. Somalia, 0.81 percent
  2. Comoros, 1.66 percent
  3. Yemen, 1.82 percent

All told, there are some 43 million Arab-nation Facebook users, more than 28 million of whom are men.

Countries with the highest change from September 2011 to May 2012 include Egypt, Algeria, and the UAE.
