Bay Area Ballgames: Facebook Examines Fans Of A’s, Giants, Raiders, 49ers

OaklandAsFansThe San Francisco Bay area is home to Facebook, and it is also home to four professional sports teams that have enjoyed recent success or are on the upswing, so the social network examined which parts of the region were the strongest supporters of Major League Baseball’s Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants, and the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.

The A’s are one win away from an American League Championship Series appearance, and the Bay area city with the highest percentage of Facebook users who like the team’s page is Elmira.

The Giants did not qualify for the postseason in 2013, but the club is the defending World Series champion. Daly City was the Facebook hotbed for Giants fans.

The Raiders have struggled in recent years, but the team’s play has improved, and its record sits at two wins and three losses heading into Sunday’s NFL slate. Its strongest Bay area city in terms of Facebook fan support is Fulton.

And the Super Bowl XLVII runners-up, the 49ers, who are off to a 3-2 start this season, are tops in Pacifica.
