Bday Enters Facebook Gift Card-Giving Fray

The latest addition to the list of applications that enable the purchasing of gift cards via Facebook announced a gift of its own: $2 million in series-A funding.

Tel Aviv-based Bday will receive the funding from fellow Israeli company Tel-Ad Electronics, and plans to use the money to expand technology and the product portfolio.

Speaking of expanded products, the company also announced the launch of Bday Gift Finder, a Facebook application that allows users to purchase gift cards for their friends.

Bday said the app analyzes the Facebook likes of friends selected by users, and then recommends gift cards for related products based on those likes.

Available gift cards cover both physical and virtual goods. Once users choose the gift cards to purchase for friends, the app completes the transactions on the brands’ websites.

Chief Operating Officer Tomer Irge added:

Finding the perfect gift for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions can be a challenge. Not only does it take a lot of time, oftentimes you’re unsure of whether or not you’re picking the right gift. Bday puts the fun back into gift giving by allowing friends to easily find the gift that counts — from Abercrombie to Zynga — no matter what the occasion.

Readers: Would you try an app like Bday Gift Finder if you were having trouble deciding what to buy for a friend?
