Caribou Coffee Brews Up #CaribouKnits Facebook, Twitter Campaign To Benefit CancerCare

CaribouCoffeeAmysBlendCaribou Coffee is brewing up a social campaign to help benefit CancerCare, a national organization that provides professional services for people managing the emotional and financial challenges of cancer.

Starting Saturday (Sept. 28) and running through Halloween (Oct. 31), every post on Facebook or Twitter that includes the hashtag #CaribouKnits will result in one of the coffee company’s volunteers knitting one inch of a scarf.

All scarves that are completed will be donated to CancerCare to provide warmth to those impacted by breast cancer.

The #CaribouKnits social campaign will run concurrent with the 18th annual release of the Caribou Coffee Amy’s Blend collection, in stores and online. The flavors are a tribute to original Caribou Coffee Roastmaster Amy Erickson, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1995.

The company said 10 percent of retail coffeehouse proceeds from the Caribou Coffee Amy’s Blend collection will be donated to CancerCare, as will $0.50 from every 11-ounce bag sold in stores, with a minimum donation of $100,000 and a cap of $250,000.

Caribou Coffee President and CEO Mike Tattersfield said in a release announcing the campaign:

Caribou is incredibly honored to share Amy Erickson’s inspiring story each year with our communities through this program. Amy’s Blend is dedicated to our dear friend Amy and everyone else whose courage has inspired us. We’re proud to be able to give back to those in the Caribou Coffee communities through unique programs this year and in partnership with CancerCare, an organization that has such a tremendous impact on those living with the everyday challenges of cancer.

CancerCare Chief Operating Officer John Rutigliano added:

Through our partnership with Caribou Coffee, we continue to make our mission of providing emotional, practical, and financial support to those affected by cancer a reality. We are proud to be part of a program that truly resonates with the values that our organization was founded upon nearly 70 years ago.
