Facebook Shows In News Feed When Friends Are Available To Chat

Facebook is using News Feed to show users when their friends are online and able to chat. Many people noticed Wednesday that there’s a green dot next to some users’ names in News Feed, indicating that they’re currently online and have chat turned on. It only appears on status updates, not photos or other types of content.

It also seems like Facebook has brought back the right-hand chat menu. However, it seems like overkill for users with the new Facebook news feed, as there’s already a chat menu in the left-hand bookmarks bar.
