New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is likely hoping that the saying, “There is no such thing as bad publicity,” holds true, as the scandal over lane closures on the George Washington Bridge and the resulting traffic nightmares led to more than 271,000 mentions in Facebook posts, messages, and comments between last Wednesday and this past Wednesday, according to Facebook search data cited by CNN’s Political Ticker blog.
Christie dwarfed Facebook mentions of two other celebrities dealing with controversy.
Pop singer Justin Bieber, who allegedly threw eggs at a neighbor’s house and saw a house guest arrested on drug charges, was mentioned about 104,000 times on Facebook during the same time period, according to CNN.
And New York Yankees Third Baseman Alex Rodriguez, who was suspended for the entire 2014 season by Major League Baseball for violating its policies on performance-enhancing drugs, was mentioned some 44,000 times.
