Facebook Restores Yanked Campaign Video Of Texas Attorney General Candidate Dan Branch

Texas Attorney General candidate Dan Branch debuted his first campaign video on Facebook Thursday, only to find that the social network wasn’t a big fan. The Republican candidate’s ad video was allegedly removed for violating the site’s community standards, according to The Texas Tribune. It turns out that the removal of the video was a mistake, Facebook said Friday.

By Friday, the video was back on Facebook, its removal a simple error, as was the 12-hour freeze imposed on posting new content to the campaign’s Facebook account.

A Facebook spokesperson issued the following statement Friday:

As our team processes more than 1 million reports each week, we occasionally make a mistake. We worked to rectify the error as soon as we were notified. We apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the removal of this content, and we have already taken steps to prevent this from happening in the future. Additionally, we have removed any blocks on associated accounts.

Branch Campaign Manager Enrique Marquez told TheBlaze he believes the campaign believes the video was flagged because Branch vowed “to fight for our state’s right to protect the unborn and our right to define a marriage as between one man and one woman.”

Facebook’s community standards prohibit content that is violent, threatening, graphic, or deemed hate speech.

The brief controversy may prove beneficial to the Branch campaign: At the time of this post, the video had generated 1,321 likes and 157 shares.
