Discovery Launches Facebook Connect Enabled Shark Week Promotion

-Discovery Channel Logo-Discovery is the latest company to launch a Facebook Connect enabled promotion that pulls in profile data into a custom generated video. This video is much more reminiscent of the Prototype game trailer that we previously wrote about. The promotion creatively depicts the viewers memories as they are being eaten by a shark. It also intelligently prompts a user to share the campaign after viewing the promotional video.

LivingSocial Starts Serving Up Local Deals

Earlier today LivingSocial, the Washington D.C. based social discovery network, launched their deal of the day product. The new tool let’s you find deals on local products and services that are listed in the LivingSocial network. The LivingSocial deals are currently limited to Washington D.C. but will be expanding over the coming weeks and months. Next on the list are New York City and Boston but there are many others in the pipeline.

-Doritos iD3 Icon-Doritos has launched a new “advergame” which integrates Facebook Connect to pull user information into a choose your own adventure type advertisement. The advertisement, developed by BBDO and a number of other agencies (we are social performed the social outreach), lets the user find their way through a movie-like story about identity thieves. The most innovative implementation of Facebook Connect that I saw prior to today was the recent Prototype game trailer, which pulled in profile data to display images and information that only the viewer would understand.

Facebook Lets Users Change Their Username

When Facebook first released the username tool a few weeks ago, they said that you better like the username that you select because you’ll never be able to change it. Now Facebook is modifying that policy to allow users to “change their username once”. It’s pretty easy to switch your username. All you need to do is visit your account settings page and click on “Change” next to the “Username” setting. Facebook will then let you know if the new username you’d like is available.
