Are You ‘Down’ With The New Name For Facebook Hookup App Bang With Friends?

Down650Facebook hookup application Bang with Friends is officially leaving the “with friends” part of its name to game developer Zynga following the settlement of a trademark-infringement lawsuit, extending the Down rebranding it introduced to its iOS app in August to the entire operation, and adding several new features.

The new Down is currently available for Android, with the iOS and Web versions coming soon.

The first rendition of Bang with Friends was simple: Users chose Facebook friends whom they wanted to hook up with and sent nudges, and if the feeling was mutual, well, you get the idea.

Down takes things further, allowing users to browse friends of friends, and including “get date” as an option, rather than just, well, banging.

Down also uses a matching algorithm that factors in characteristics including mutual friend counts and “hotness scores,” which are based on the percentage of people who click on users’ profiles or indicate interest.

Founder Colin Hodge spoke with TechCrunch about the developments at Down, saying:

There’s still a stigma for using tech for dating. It’s rapidly eroding, but we still think it’s crucial for our users to feel comfortable. That’s part of the reason we rebranded.

We chose Down to represent the simple, natural way that our generation dates, without alienating people who may not want an app that says “bang” but are totally down otherwise.

One of the biggest requests was, “I love using the app, but I’m running out of people.” We’re making it something you want to come into all the time.

We want this to empower both males and females to be straightforward with their dating life, whether that means sex or a more traditional commitment, so we very much dispute any cries of sexism.
