No Over-The-Top Wedding For Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Bride Priscilla Chan

There’s a little of thrifty Warren Buffet in Facebook Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg. The billion-dollar wedding industry got no dimes, and barely even a nickel, from billionaire Zuckerberg and his new bride, Priscilla Chan.

Bucking a national trend of lavish, over-the-top nuptials, Zuckerberg and longtime girlfriend Chan got hitched in their Palo Alto, Calif., backyard to little fanfare Saturday.

They avoided any and all stress related to wedding invitations — from which font, to what paper stock, to who has Aunt Hilda’s address — by simply not sending any. In fact, friends thought they were showing up for a party to celebrate Chan’s recent graduation from medical school, and were only later clued in to the fact that they were actually attending a wedding, reported Clare O’Connor for Forbes.

Fewer than 100 guests were on hand to witness the ceremony and enjoy the backyard reception. They were invited to nosh on sushi from a local favorite called Fuki Sushi, along with additional grub from Palo Alto Sol, reported O’Connor, and there was no wedding cake (or the tastings, feeding rituals, and/or chocolate, vanilla, marble decision-making that accompanies such things). Nope, this hush-hush wedding was as low-key as low-key gets.

Chan took part in no thousands-costing feeding-tube diet (sweet relief) and skipped any extravagant, over-the-top dress — her delicately laced frock was fashioned by lesser-known designer Claire Pettibone, reports O’Connor, and came at a price tag of less than five grand. Indeed, Pettibone has just over 4,830 at the time of this post.

This is all quite remarkable, considering that the average wedding in the U.S. cost $27,000 in 2011, O’Connor reported, with that figure jumping to $66,000 in New York. Even in the Northern California area where the couple resides, weddings often run more than $32, 000. The Zuckerbergs saved a pretty penny, showing a spendthrift style shareholders are sure to be pleased by.

How refreshing, we say. Could this couple actually be, cough, in unconditional love?

There was no word yet on whether, as Donald Trump recently suggested, a prenuptial agreement was drafted.

Readers: Are you surprised that the big day for the Zuckerbergs was such a down-home affair?
