EARTH DAY: Grand Canyon Topped U.S. National Parks In 2013 Facebook Check-Ins

GrandCanyon650Tuesday is Earth Day, which Facebook marked with a list of the top 10 U.S. National Parks by 2013 check-ins, adding that 9 percent of users who check in at one U.S. National Park in 2013 visited more than one during the year.

The top 10 U.S. National Parks by 2013 check-ins were:

  1. Grand Canyon
  2. Yosemite
  3. Yellowstone
  4. Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts
  5. Great Smoky Mountains
  6. Zion
  7. Rocky Mountain
  8. Everglades
  9. Acadia
  10. Joshua Tree

12 percent of Facebook users who checked in at U.S. National Parks last year live in other countries, and the top five were:

  1. U.K.
  2. Germany
  3. Canada
  4. Australia
  5. France

The top five U.S. cities in terms of visitors to National Parks in 2013 were:

  1. Washington, D.C.
  2. Los Angeles
  3. Las Vegas
  4. San Diego
  5. Denver

Finally, Facebook highlighted this note on the Facebook Stories page from user Jiaji Liu, who visited 38 National Parks in 2013 and shared 28 of them on the social network.
