Facebook Rolling Out Enhanced Page Post Targeting

Facebook page administrators will soon be able to target their posts by various criteria, with the feature reportedly rolled out to some pages already, a marketer who was briefed by a Facebook representative told sister blog Inside Facebook.

The criteria apply only to the news feed, and all posts will remain visible on timeline, according to Inside Facebook, which posted the list of criteria:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Interested in
  • Relationship status
  • Language
  • Education
  • Workplace
  • Location (country, state, city)

A member of a closed Facebook group for social marketers shared with TechCrunch the following information from Facebook:

Page Post Targeting Enhanced

Today, we will start rolling out an enhanced version of page post targeting to a small percentage of page admins. Over the next few weeks, this will become available to all pages. With this new feature, pages can now target their posts to certain fans in the news feed who meet specific criteria such as age, gender, location, language, etc.

All content will still remain on the page, since this is the only way to allow friends of engaged fans who don’t meet the targeting criteria to see viral stories (i.e., David likes a post).

Facebook issued its typical response to Inside Facebook (say it with us):

We are always testing new features across the site. We have nothing further to share at this time.

Readers: Do you think this type of targeting will be beneficial for advertisers and marketers on Facebook?
