Facebook Named One Of The Most Prolific Online Trackers

If you’ve ever been surfing Facebook and got the feeling that somebody’s watching you, you might be right. The Evidon Global Tracker Report, a semiannual analysis of the ad tracking agency, listed Facebook among the top companies tracking users.

According to PC World, Google Analytics was named the overwhelming (and obvious) leader in online tracking. Ranked third are Facebook’s Social Plugins, and fifth is Facebook Connect.

The magazine also discusses some other interesting things from the Evidon Global Tracker Report, such as:

Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus are neck-and-neck in the race to festoon Web pages with social sharing widgets. On average, users encounter one of these widgets 15 times a day.

However, many of these results should be taken with the caveat that these statistics are from Ghostery users who agree to participate in this study. Evidon’s report doesn’t track everyday Web surfers who don’t use Ghostery.
