Facebook has been ramping up their D.C. office pretty consistently over the past couple years and today they announced that they’ve hired Marne Levine as their new Vice President of global public policy. Levine previously served as the White House economic advisor. I guess she figured that with the economy going so well, it was time to make the jump! (Sarcasm) According to the Washington Post, Levine “will oversee the company’s interaction with governments and non-governmental organizations around the globe”.
As Facebook continues to face pressure from privacy advocates, Facebook’s D.C. office has become increasingly important. I’m not quite sure what Levine’s day-to-day activities will be, however Tim Sparapani will continue to serve as the director of the D.C. office. Facebook’s decision to hire Marine Levine illustrates how the company is gearing up with world-class staff in order to take on any of the issues which the company will increasingly face over the coming years as they look to become the largest global internet company.
