Facebook Continues To Expand Washington, D.C. Team

In yet another sign that Facebook intends to be a player in Washington, D.C., the company is welcoming a number of new hires to its office in the nation’s capital.

The social media channel gave a shout out to the group of seasoned policy officials through a post on the Facebook D.C. page.

The new employees includes Director of Privacy Erin Egan, Director of Public Policy Louisa Terrell, and Manager of Public Policy Chris Herndon. Here’s a little more information about the latest additions to Facebook’s Washington office.

Erin Egan, Director of Privacy: Egan is the first to fill the newly created position, an apparent nod that Facebook is serious about addressing the privacy issue. She was a partner and co-chair of Covington & Burling’s Global Privacy and Data Security practice group, and has been recognized by both Chambers USA and Legal 500 U.S. as a leading privacy and data security lawyer.

Louisa Terrell, Director of Public Policy: Terrell is a former special assistant to the president at the White House. Previously, she was a senior director in public policy at Yahoo and deputy chief of staff for Vice President Joe Biden when he was a senator.

Chris Herndon, Manager of Public Policy: A Capitol Hill veteran, Herndon will focus on relations with the U.S. House of Representatives. He joins Facebook from the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, where he served panel Republicans.

This latest group is just the most recent crop of veteran Washington hands to join Facebook. Earlier this year, Joel Kaplan, a former Bush Administration official, was hired to lead Facebook’s DC office.

And Joe Lockhart, former press secretary for President Bill Clinton, came aboard over the summer.

Perhaps the clearest sign yet that Facebook intends to educate and influence lawmakers was the announcement last month that it was creating a political action committee.

What do you think of Facebook’s growing presence in Washington D.C.?
