How Facebook Promotes Its Own Events

DavidBeckhamNotificationFacebook has begun to promote its own events — such as the exclusive premiere of the video for “Gorilla” from Bruno Mars on the social network, and retired soccer superstar David Beckham’s digital book signing and question-and-answer session on Facebook Digital Stadium — with notifications that are sent only to users who like the corresponding Facebook pages.

Reader Matteo Gamba of Wimdu shared the screenshot below, which he received earlier this month, prior to the Facebook-exclusive premiere of Mars’ video.

And a BuzzFeed reader shared the screenshot above, promoting the Facebook Digital Stadium event featuring Beckham.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed to BuzzFeed:

(Facebook is) testing various notification types to help people discover content that might be relevant to them.

The Facebook spokesperson also stressed the fact that only users who liked David Beckham’s page received those notifications.
