U.S. Humane Society Tops 1 Million Facebook Fans

Put your paws together for the Humane Society of the United States, which topped the one million Facebook fan mark earlier this week.

The Humane Society is marking the milestone on its Facebook page by:

  • Hosting a special video from Chief Executive Officer Wayne Pacelle, thanking fans for being part of its Facebook community;
  • Asking pet owners to share stories about and photos of their pets in an effort to find one million reasons why we love the critters;
  • Providing a mobile-friendly way to upload photos for the initiative above; and
  • Giving discount coupons to its online store for every Facebook user who submits photos.

The Humane Society said it has been active in social media since 2006, with notable accomplishments including becoming the number three nonprofit on Facebook Causes and winning $250,000 in the Pepsi Refresh Everything Project.
