Facebook May Merge Application Ticker With News Feed

The precursor of today’s ticker on Facebook might disappear, possibly replaced by aggregated news feed posts grouped by friends or application.

As detailed on the developer blog, the new games-only activity feed is actually a sub-menu option under the apps and games dashboard called “Friend Activity.”

When selected, the view condenses all friends’ game stories into one feed organized by most recent stories first.

This effectively creates a one-stop destination for games on Facebook – which is something the social network has tried to avoid in the past even as Google Plus’ rival games platform embraces it.

Meanwhile, Facebook’s developer blog says there hasn’t been significant traffic generated by the miniature ticker that currently appears in the upper right hand corner of the screen when users have an application running on the social network.

Facebook is looking into other options “improve and simplify” the games experience. The gaming bookmarks launched this summer have driven significant traffic and re-engagement, especially as the feature has undergone refinement.
