Facebook Gives Pages On Mobile A Sleeker Design

Facebook has redesigned the way mobile users view pages. The company announced Tuesday that pages will take on a sleeker look, making it easier for users to like, message, call, as well as see if a business is open. Users can also easily see how many times they’ve checked into place-based pages. Those who manage Facebook pages can also easily switch from the admin view to the public view. This new design will roll out to iOS users Tuesday and Android users later on.

Here’s a comparison of the old and new designs for pages on mobile:

Page admins don’t need to do anything to prepare their pages for this change, but Facebook recommends that they have all of their information up to date. It appears that, much like Graph Search, Facebook is trying to move in the direction of Yelp with place-based pages. The most pertinent information has been brought to the forefront: Location, hours, a map, and price range. While a map and calling capabilities are available in the old layout, this makes it more visual. Users can tap more if they want to share this page with a friend or copy the link into a message.

Facebook has apparently eliminated tabs for mobile pages.

For company pages that aren’t based on a place, here’s what the new design looks like:

The new pages format is similar to what is accessed through Facebook’s Nearby feature on mobile:

Facebook notes that this will make it easier for page admins to manage from mobile. While the ability to pin a post from the phone or tablet still isn’t a possibility, Facebook says that pinned posts will appear more prominently on the page’s mobile timeline.

These changes allow page admins to more easily see what their page looks like from the view of a user.
