If you’ve ever done some online shopping, advanced to the point of payment, and then experienced buyer’s remorse and abandoned your shopping cart, don’t fret: You can now receive a little help from your Facebook friends.
Social rewards company Friendgift announced the launch Tuesday of FriendPay, which enables shoppers’ friends to chip in toward the cost of items they cannot afford, receiving special discounts on products, vacations, and events in return.
Needy shoppers can alert friends via Facebook, Twitter, or email when they have fallen short on items such as electronics, video games, movies, designer clothing, and accessories, and friends who chip in receive instant rewards.
In addition, shoppers can use FriendPay like “a portable, personal gift registry,” the company said, publishing their wish lists for birthdays, holidays, or other events, rather than leaving their friends and relatives guessing.
Friendgift is offering early adopters free shipping on almost all purchases via FriendPay, as well as discounts of up to $50.
The company added that it plans to partner with national retailers to add FriendPay capabilities to their websites. Friendgift might also want to look into Facebook Credits for Websites, the limited test announced by the social network last week.
