After months of complaints from users, Facebook has released the new version of their Facebook for Android application. It’s also most likely one of the reasons that Mark Zuckerberg recently installed the application on his own Android. Included in the new version of the application is an updated homepage which includes the ability to post status updates, view photos and videos, and view notifications. It’s relatively similar to the existing Facebook for iPhone application.
Additional features, as provided to us by a Facebook spokesperson, include:
- Video playback from the app. Similar to the Facebook for iPhone application, we are using the H.264 baseline profile for encoding videos
- Support for Events. You can now review your upcoming events, read your event details, and even RSVP – all from the application
- Respond to friend requests without leaving the application
Those who currently use Facebook on their Android devices will be notified of the update and will be prompted to download it. Below are screenshots of the new application.
