Facebook: 200 Percent More Relationships Added On Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day, coming up Thursday, is a day for love — both in real life and on Facebook. Newly released statistics from the social network show that there are 200 percent more relationships added Feb. 14 compared with any other day of the year.

It’s not just new relationships that are announced on Valentine’s Day. Facebook also noted that the day is very popular to announce when users are married — 200 percent more people share the news of their weddings that day on Facebook. Valentine’s Day is the third-most-popular day to announce engagements, behind Christmas and Christmas Eve.

Of the people who updated their statuses Feb. 14 to “in a relationship,” Facebook says that more than 70 of them first met on Valentine’s Day. The most popular days to meet new friends and significant others? New Year’s Eve and Halloween. The Fourth of July is the third-most-popular day, with 95 percent more people saying that they met their boyfriend or girlfriend that day than any other.
