Facebook Users Vent About U.S. Election Results

Facebook users are going online to vent — er, share — their feelings about the results of yesterday’s elections in the U.S.

Here’s a recap of the results.

Ohio

Ohio voters overwhelming rejected Ohio law Senate Bill 5, the anti-collective bargaining measure that Republican Governor John Kasich introduced earlier this year.

And state voters have said “no” to Issue 2, preserving the labor unions’ rights to negotiate contracts.

An interesting note about Ohio Republican Governor John Kasich. While he supported the anti-union legislation which was nullified by yesterday’s results, he remains one of the most popular governors on Facebook, according to our Election Tracker. And he’s jumped from second to first place in new fan growth today.

Maine

Maine voters approved a ballot initiative allowing same-day voter registration.

Kentucky

Kentucky Democratic Governor Steven Beshear won re-election in a landslide. Last night’s results have propelled him to third place among all U.S. governors with the most Facebook fan growth today, according to the Election Tracker.

Mississippi

The “personhood” amendment in Mississippi, the severely restrictive anti-abortion measure also known as Issue 26, went down in defeat.

Actually, Republican presidential candidates are probably glad the measure didn’t pass: The bill would have been the first of its kind in the nation, and forced the GOP candidates like Mitt Romney, Herman Cain and Rick Perry, to answer whether they think a fertilized egg is a person.

In the gubernatorial race, Republican Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant will succeed Haley Barbour as the next governor of Mississippi.

Governor Barbour leaves office with Facebook fan popularity: He’s among the governors’ with the most new fan page growth today.
