Chalk up a win for Facebook in the war against malware and spam: The two companies extinguished further repostings of bogus $50 gift cards for Starbucks.
These posts were going up at a rapid pace until around 5 pm Eastern Standard Time.
Now technology from Websense and Web of Trust stops the repostings with a warning message.
The warning says that Facebook is blocking the web address Bestgiftalert.com for being “spammy or unsafe.”
The message also provides a link to the social network’s help center.
There’s also an alternative for people who believe they’re seeing the pop-up window in error.
The swiftness of this techonological response seems very promising for security on the site.
Readers, did you see any posts about free $50 Starbucks gift cards on Facebook before the site started blocking the web address involved?
