IOS App FaceSaver Enters Facebook Profile Cleansing Sector

The latest solution to help Facebook users clean up their profiles to make their content work- or school-friendly is new iOS application FaceSaver, which claims to be capable of discovering “two to three times more” inappropriate content than other Facebook cleaning apps and services.

FaceSaver scans users’ timelines — including wall posts, status updates, and comments — for inappropriate terms, using the social network’s developer functionality to cross-reference a library of inappropriate terms (profanity, rude jokes, drug and alcohol references, etc.) with the text in their timelines.

Results are displayed in a custom browser with direct links to Facebook’s delete button.

FaceSaver developer System Ready said its app stands out because many similar tools don’t recognize terms such as “heroin,” “queer,” and “rape,” adding that it spent six months developing its app, and saying in a release announcing its launch:

Thousands of people have put their trust in online Facebook “cleaners,” but in many cases, they have been incorrectly told that their profiles are clean. We built FaceSaver as one that actually works.

We feel users have been misplacing their trust in other cleaning services — they all missed serious, common terms in our tests and are giving their users a false sense of security. We’d encourage Facebook to watch the space carefully for services that aren’t delivering what they promise.

Using the app, a typical Facebook user can clean-up their whole profile in under five minutes — normally, it would take them hours.

FaceSaver is available for devices running iOS 4.0 or higher, and the app supports English, French, German, Irish, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish. It costs $2.99 in the iTunes App Store, and System Ready said it will launch an Android version soon.
