Facebook Touts Games, App Center At GDC Europe

More than 235 million people are playing games on Facebook.com each month, up from 205 million in August 2011, and up 8.4 percent since the beginning of 2012, according to statistics released by Facebook at Game Developers Conference Europe 2012 in Cologne, Germany, Tuesday.

The social network also announced at GDC Europe that more than 150 million people used its app center in the past month, and that app center is driving 2.4 times more installs than its previous applications and games dashboard.

Facebook added that users who install apps from app center are 35 percent more likely to return to that app the next day and 17 percent more likely to do so within the next week.

Finally, the social network said it drove users to the Apple App Store and Google Play more than 170 million times in July.

Facebook Product Manager for Apps and Games Matt Wyndowe said at GDC Europe, as reported by TechCrunch:

We want to drive the same type of traffic we drive to mobile that we drive to Web. Many game developers find that people who sign into their mobile apps with Facebook are more engaged and spend more money.
