GDC: 375M Per Month Play Facebook-Connected Games; 735M Daily Referrals To Games

FacebookGamesGDCBanner650Facebook announced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco that an average of 375 million people play Facebook-connected games each month, and that the social network’s Web and mobile applications send a daily average of 735 million referrals to games.

Facebook also conducted an internal study in September, finding that:

  • Mobile engagement for cross-platform players was 2.4 times that of mobile-only players.
  • Desktop engagement for cross-platform players was 1.5 times that of desktop-only players.
  • Revenue on desktop for cross-platform players was 3.3 times that of desktop-only players.

And the social network announced that developers can customize the language in their game requests, in order to provide more information to game players about what their friends are asking them to do. Facebook offered more information in a post on its developer blog:

For example, requests that used to say, “Anita sent you a request,” will now have specific information about the request, such as, “Anita asked you for a life.” With this change, players can better decide whether they want to take action on a request, and developers can gauge which requests perform the best.

It’s simple for developers to take advantage of this improvement to requests. You only need to add two new pieces of information to your request: an action and an object. You can find out more by reading our documentation.

Finally, Facebook said representatives from its games team and from its Parse cloud app platform will be at its booth at GDC, No. 1838, through Friday.
