How Facebook Is Encouraging Mobile Users To Download Its Messenger App

GetMessenger650Facebook is prompting its mobile users, at least on iOS, to download the official Facebook Messenger application.

When iOS Facebook app users navigate to chat, either by sliding the home screen to the right or clicking on the head icon on the top right of the app, those who have not already installed Messenger may see the prompt pictured above. Clicking “install” leads to the iTunes App Store, where users can download the free app.

The push for Messenger may be related to the major moment messaging apps are having, from WhatsApp and Snapchat to the new Instagram Direct. Twitter, too, has been marketing itself as a messaging platform.

Facebook has also been testing changes and improvements to Messenger, likely seeking new downloads.
