HOAX: Bill Gates Is Not Giving Facebook Users $5K For Sharing His Photo

It has been well-documented that Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates will lend his time and money to worthy causes, but sharing a photo of Gates does not constitute a worthy cause, and doing so will not bring $5,000 to Facebook users.

Sophos’ Naked Security blog reported on a hoax circulating around the social network, featuring a photo of Gates and the following caption:

Hey Facebook,

As some of you may know, I’m Bill Gates. If you click that share link, I will give you $5,000. I always deliver, I mean, I brought you Windows XP, right?

Naked Security said the hoax appears to be harmless, with no instances of phishing or malware having been reported.
