Facebook Uses Holiday Season To Promote Advertising On Facebook

The holiday shopping season also marks the heaviest advertising, marketing, and promotional period of the calendar year, and Facebook is no exception, using the end of the year to push advertising on the social network.

Earlier this month, some page administrators began seeing a banner ad urging them to “Get More Page Likes This Holiday Season,” and directing page admins who clicked on the banner to Facebook’s Target Your Ads page.

Sister blog Inside Facebook reported on two more ways Facebook is attempting to promote itself as a marketing tool during the holiday season.

A banner ad similar to the “Get More Page Likes” example above prompts page admins to “Advertise Your Holiday Discounts and Promotions,” but Inside Facebook pointed out that clicking on the banner ads brings page admins directly to the social network’s self-serve ad dashboard, with no apparent guidance on how to create holiday-focused content.

Inside Facebook pointed out that Facebook is also targeting page admins who began working on ads in the self-serve dashboard but never completed the process with a new module headlined, “Your Ad Is Almost Ready.” Clicking “Finish Your Ad” brings admins to a summary page, allowing them to review their content and, should they wish to proceed, to place their orders.
