Last week we released our first state of the Facebook Platform report which was created from conversations and surveys among the top Facebook developers.
While we won’t release all the findings in this post, as you can find them in the latest report at SocialTimes PRO, there are a few interesting findings worth noting. Most significant was that the Groups API is not yet a significant consideration for most developers. However the Facebook Places API is increasingly becoming an important component of the platform with close to half of developers considering using it.
Most likely to take advantage of the Places API were marketing developers, in contrast to game developers who weren’t as interested. Based on conversations I’ve personally had outside this report however, there are definitely a few game developers considering how they’ll integrate location into their products. For the time being though, the current “social game” market is growing despite a lack of location-based products.

If you wish to participate in future polls about the state of the Facebook Platform please fill out the following form. We will be sending out surveys no more than four times a year. We will also use this to send out requests for feedback about what you would like to find out from the general Facebook developer community.
