Facebook’s software engineers in Boston will be on the move soon, as The Boston Globe reports that the social network will rent about 3,000 square feet on the eighth floor of 1 Broadway in the Kendall Square area of Cambridge.

The social network’s engineers had been working out of shared space at two Workbar locations, in Boston and Cambridge, according to the Globe, which added that the new Kendall Square space can fit roughly 15 people, and that the move will likely not occur until later in the year.

Google, Amazon, and Apple all had space in 1 Broadway at various points in time, according to the Globe.

Expansion in the area might be on the horizon, as well, as the Globe reported that the LinkedIn profile of Ryan Mack lists his title as Facebook Boston site lead and engineering manager and says:

(We are) focusing on hiring infrastructure experts to grow our Boston-based team. We are looking for experienced engineers who would enjoy the challenge of building massive globally distributed systems while simultaneously defining the culture and trajectory of our rapidly growing team.

While there are no listings in Boston or Cambridge on the Careers at Facebook page, the Globe reported that local interviewing has been more targeted, limited to candidates the team members already know or are introduced to.

Facebook Spokesman Slater Tow would only tell the newspaper:

As a rule, we decline to comment on these types of stories.
