Like Hugs? Check Out The Like-A-Hug Vest

It feels good when someone likes a comment or a video that we post, but that feeling is more internal. A group of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed a way for likes to become even more comforting: the Like-a-Hug vest.

You probably won’t find a Like-a-Hug vest in stores anytime soon, but it’s an interesting concept. Each time a friend likes something you posted on Facebook, the vest will automatically inflate, giving a feeling of a hug. If you want to return the favor to a friend who is also wearing a Like-a-Hug vest, simply hug back and the like-giver will feel a hug, too.

Melissa Chow, one of the designers of the Like-a-Hug vest, described the project in a blog post:

Like-a-Hug is a wearable social media vest that allows for hugs to be given via Facebook, bringing us closer despite physical distance. The vest inflates when friends like a photo, video, or status update on the wearer’s wall, thereby allowing us to feel the warmth, encouragement, support, or love that we feel when we receive hugs. Hugs can also be sent back to the original sender by squeezing the vest and deflating it.

She also posted a video explaining the idea:
