LIVESTRONG Fundraiser Taps Into Facebook

If you start seeing the number 28 sprouting on profile pics on Facebook, don’t worry. Your friends haven’t joined some bizarre cult, they’re taking part in a fundraiser for the LIVESTRONG Foundation.

RadioShack will donate $1 for every person who updates their Facebook or Twitter profile image on Saturday to support the 28 million people fighting cancer. On Facebook, visit the RadioShack page and click on the “Team 28″ tab. Once you give permission for the application to access your information, it will add the 28 image to your profile picture. The user must then set the updated picture as their profile image.

This goal is to raise $100,000 in 24 hours. As fans across the globe add the “28″, their profile image will appear on a digital mosaic of Lance Armstrong in Times Square, New York. Online, viewers can zoom in and find their profile picture on the Team28 mosaic. Once spotted, supporters can tag themselves, tag their friends and then share the mosaic with their followers. The goal of the campaign is to reach 28,000 tags by October 2, LIVESTRONG Day.

LIVESTRONG’s Lance Armstrong Foundation unites people through programs and experiences to empower cancer survivors to live life on their own terms and to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.

Meanwhile, the Facebook campaign to get Oprah to do a show on children’s cancer now has over 27,000 fans.
