Facebook is testing a new layout for its marketplace ads in which a larger image stretches across the top of ads, with text appearing underneath.

Sister blog Inside Facebook reported on the test, which was confirmed by Facebook, saying that the only ad it has discovered thus far with the new layout was from retailer ModCloth, and that the URL in the ad’s link directs users to a campaign called “facebook_rhstest,” likely meaning Facebook right-hand-side test.

A Facebook spokesperson told Inside Facebook:

We are running a small test in the U.S. where some people might see ads in the right-hand column that feature larger images. We have seen that people respond favorably to larger images — both from people and pages — in news feed, and, as such, we are testing this out on the right-hand side.
