Messenger For Android Update Includes Free Calling For Canadian Users

Facebook continues to wage war with the call features of cell phones by introducing VoIP (voice-over-Internet-protocol) and voice features. This time, the social network’s latest update to the Messenger application for Android includes free calling for Canadian users. With this update, Facebook also introduced deeper group messaging options.

In the latest iOS native app update, Facebook added free calling for U.S. and Canadian users, with the call option working off users’ data plans. In January, Facebook gave the iOS Messenger app VoIP powers, but only for Canadian users. It appears that Facebook is once again using Canadians as guinea pigs for voice options, as the newest Messenger for Android update includes free calling for users in Canada.

Facebook also upgraded group conversations with this update, allowing users to name groups right from the top of their conversations and get to group conversations in one tap. Users can search for group messages by name or by friends in the conversation.
