Will Facebook Announce Messenger For IPad At Tuesday Press Event?

Another theory has emerged on what Facebook will announce at its press event Tuesday: a version of its Facebook Messenger application for Apple’s iPad tablet.

The social network announced the press event last week, to be held at its headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., with the only clue in the form of this sentence:

Come and see what we’re building.

Much speculation has centered around a Facebook phone, with other guesses including details on the company’s social commerce strategy (via Facebook analytics provider Wisemetrics), or details about its planned headquarters expansion.

The Messenger for iPad angle comes courtesy of TechCrunch, which said sources close to the social network reported that the app is ready to launch, and would offer similar features to Facebook’s other Messenger apps: emoticons, photo sharing, read receipts, location tagging, group messaging, and voice-recorded messaging.
