Facebook Names Mike Schroepfer As New CTO

Facebook has made an internal hire to fill the chief technical officer position vacant since Bret Taylor’s departure last summer — Mike Schroepfer, formerly the company’s vice president of engineering.

Schroepfer has been with Facebook for nearly five years and has been at the forefront of the company’s mobile focus. He joined Facebook after working for Mozilla for three years, and he also sits on the board of directors for Ancestry.com.

Facebook confirmed Schroepfer’s new position in a statement to the media:

Mike Schroepfer’s new designation as Facebook’s CTO reflects the unique and important role he plays across the company.

The hire rounds out Facebook’s chief level of executives, with Mark Zuckerberg as CEO, Sheryl Sandberg as chief operating officer, and David Ebersman as chief financial officer.

Taylor announced that he was leaving last June to start a company with Kevin Gibbs, founder and tech lead of the Google App Engine and creator of Google Suggest.
