Facebook’s Got Moves, Acquires Fitness-Tracking App

MovesiOS650Facebook’s latest acquisition move involved Moves, as the social network announced its acquisition of ProtoGeo Oy, parent of fitness-tracking “activity diary” application Moves. Terms were not disclosed.

Much like past acquisitions, Facebook said Moves will continue to operate as a stand-alone app, although members of its team will relocate to the social network’s headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif.

Moves announced the acquisition in a press release:

Today, we’re delighted to announce that Facebook has acquired our company and the Moves app. Since we launched Moves, we’ve been focused on running a simple and clean activity diary that millions of people have enjoyed using.

Now, we’re joining Facebook’s talented team to work on building and improving their products and services with a shared mission of supporting simple, efficient tools for more than 1 billion people.

For those of you who use the Moves app, the Moves experience will continue to operate as a stand-alone app, and there are no plans to change that or commingle data with Facebook.

Thank you for supporting us on this journey, and we’re looking forward to our future at Facebook!

And Facebook issued the following statement:

As part of Facebook’s multi-app strategy, we’re excited to announce that the popular Moves app will be joining Facebook’s suite of applications. Key members of Moves will be joining Facebook at our headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif.

The Moves app will continue to run as a separate, stand-alone application. The Moves team has built an incredible tool for the millions of people who want to better understand their daily fitness activity, and we’re looking forward to the app continuing to gain momentum.
