NY State Troopers Use Facebook To ID Woman's Corpse

New York state police have turned to Facebook to seek help identifying the charred body of a woman who was found Sunday morning in an upstate N.Y. state park.

Investigators have set up a Facebook page with possibly dentifyable items that belonged to the victim to see if anyone comes forward with information about her.

The case which has been ruled a homicide has police baffled, as to the identification of the woman, whom they say was either African American or Latino, perhaps in her mid to late twenties, 5 feet 9 inches and 150 pounds. She was wearing Levi Strauss 524 jeans, black flat shoes with beads, and a green shirt.

The Facebook page contains photos of the victim’s tattoo of an intricate flower (pictured above) located on her lower back, as well as a shot of the jeans and Victoria’s Secret shorts she had been wearing.

On Monday, New York State Crime Stoppers offered a $2,500 reward to anyone who could provide any information that would lead to an arrest and possible conviction of the woman’s assailant.

The Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy but the victim’s cause of death have not been made public.

The woman’s body was discovered in James Baird state park in Pleasant Valley, when firefighters responded to a blaze that was sparked by a brush fire. It was still burning when her body was discovered. Police suspect that the woman was first killed, then her body dumped, at the park.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-866-313-TIPS (8477). Readers, what do you think about using Facebook to help identify human remains?
