Obama’s Latest Facebook Campaign Sticks

The race for the U.S. presidency is increasingly being fought on Facebook. President Barack Obama‘s team used the social network this weekend, launching an interesting way to drive traffic to the Obama 2012 application, while giving users a tangible reward. When users connect with Obama via Facebook, they can get a free car magnet.

The promotion was posted to Obama’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, quickly gaining steam. The Facebook post has been shared more than 4,000 times, gaining 80,000 likes and 3,300 comments.

When users opt to login with Facebook, it takes them to the Obama 2012 app, which prompts users to either register or commit to vote.

So did Obama’s newest campaign move the needle?

According to sister site AppData, yes. Daily active users of the Obama 2012 app went from 30,000 Saturday, the day before the magnet offer, to 160,000 Sunday.
