How To Follow The 2014 Winter Olympic Games From Sochi On Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

OlympicAthletesHubiOS650The 2014 Winter Olympic Games kick off in Sochi, Russia, in exactly 100 days, but the Olympic Athletes’ Hub application is available right now, aggregating the Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds of participants.

Olympic fans can download the Olympic Athletes’ Hub app for iOS and Android, and Olympians can use the app to text each other or the International Olympic Committee.

Olympic Athletes’ Hub users can search athletes by country, team, sport, or edition of the Olympic Games, as well as accessing secret training tips from Olympians including Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette, U.S. bobsledder Steve Messler, U.S. swimming legend Mark Spitz, and Switzerland figure skater Stéphane Lambiel.

Users can also accumulate points via Facebook likes and Twitter follows, redeemable for prizes such as virtual medals from past Olympics.

More than 5,000 verified Olympians have already signed up for Olympic Athletes’ Hub, and once the Games kick off Friday, Feb. 7, athletes will participate in live chats from the Athletes’ Village. Television listings information will also be available.

IOC Athletes’ Commission Chairperson Claudia Bokel, a silver medalist in fencing for Germany, said in a release announcing the launch of Olympic Athletes’ Hub:

The new app and updates unveiled today are the latest example of the IOC’s continued efforts to connect athletes with their fans. The Hub is a great tool for us athletes to interact with the public and even amongst ourselves. The new additions make it even easier for us to communicate in fun, innovative ways.

South Korean figure skater and 2010 gold medalist Kim Yuna added:

The Olympic Athletes’ Hub is a great way to connect with my fellow skaters and fans from all over the world. I’m looking forward to interacting with them.
