Orlando attracts visitors from around the world to the legendary Disney World. The city is more than just theme parks and resorts though. The locals have a great way of life that is all their own. The beautiful weather, an excellent sports team to route for, and some awesome universities are just a few reasons to call Orlando home. We have researched Orlando’s Facebook users, and have found some interesting findings about the tourist spots and spots off the beaten path. Check out our findings below.

Population

In the Orlando area, there are about 1,011,260 Facebook users. There are roughly 100,840 more women using the site, as is the common pattern on Facebook throughout the world. About 10% of users in the Orlando area are under the age of 18.

Sports

After the past couple of seasons, it is hard not to support the Orlando Magic. The Magic have almost 43,000 fans in Orlando. Unfortunately for the local diehard Magic fans, the Boston Celtics, who knocked Orlando out of the playoffs last season, have over 16,400 fans in the area. An upside though is over 35,000 locals are Dwight Howard supporters.

Education

Over in Winter Park, Rollins College has about 15,000 graduates in the United States on Facebook.

The largest college in the city is the University of Central Florida. UCF has about 128,220 graduates in the country. Surprisingly, only about 30% of those stay in the area after college.

Sites

Obviously, the largest site in Orlando is Disney World. Almost 40,000 locals enjoy a visit to the massive theme park that is Disney World. About 3,500 fans of Universal Studios are within close driving distance. SeaWorld has about 5,300 fans in Orlando. Epcot has about 1,700 fans in the city. Fun Facebook trivia fact, drinking around the world at Epcot has over 1,100 fans in town.

Music & Venues

Rock band Matchbox 20, who made quite a stir in the ’90s, started in Orlando. Matchbox 20 has over 2,300 fans in the area. Upcoming Rock and Roll songwriter Mike Dunn has about 240 hometown fans on the site. Pop music has always seemed like a partial fad. One of the fads to come out of the Orlando was Boy Bands. The trend has seemed to dissipate a bit as the Backstreet Boys have about 1,300 fans in the area, and N’Sync has about 500.

Orlando does have some pretty cool and interesting music venue varying in sizes. Just to look at a few, a big one in town is the Hard Rock Live. About 1,280 locals enjoy catching a concert at the Hard Rock Live. A couple of smaller venues include the Backbooth and Will’s Pub. About 1,200 residents enjoy the Backbooth and 1,300 enjoy Will’s Pub for a fun evening of live music.

Employment

With such a big attraction located in the area, it is interesting to look at the number employees Walt Disney Company has in Orlando on Facebook. The Walt Disney Company employs 8,680 local users. Kudos to those who make the theme park run on a daily basis.

Food

Although Orlando does have main chain restaurants, there are some great local landmarks. Just to name a few, Beefy King has about 665 fans on Facebook. Lee and Rick’s Oyster Bar has over a 1,000 fans on the site.

Media

The Orlando Sentinel is keep print media alive in the area with over 1,500 readers on Facebook.

Conclusion

The fair people of Orlando do enjoy the tourist attractions that many travel far distances for, and it just seems to make their location all the better. Many locals are also employed by Walt Disney Company. Besides this, Orlando is a great place with excellent sites, good sports, good music, and good schools.
